SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM: AIRBAG SYSTEM: B1630/23,B1635/24: Driver Side Rear Airbag Sensor Circuit Malfunction

DTC B1630/23 - Driver Side Rear Airbag Sensor Circuit Malfunction

DTC B1635/24 - Front Passenger Side Rear Airbag Sensor Circuit Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

The airbag sensor LH consists of parts such as the safing sensor, the diagnostic circuit and the lateral deceleration sensor. The configuration of the rear airbag sensor RH is the same as that of the LH.
When the center airbag sensor assembly receives signals from the lateral deceleration sensor, it determines whether or not the SRS should be activated.
DTC B1630/23 is set when a malfunction is detected in the curtain shield airbag sensor (driver seat side) circuit.
DTC B1635/24 is set when a malfunction is detected in the curtain shield airbag sensor (front passenger seat side) circuit.





HINT: Troubleshoot DTC B1620/21 first when the DTC B1620/21 and B1630/23 are output simultaneously.

WIRING DIAGRAM





INSPECTION PROCEDURE
CAUTION: In order to prevent unexpected airbag deployment, disconnect the following connectors before inspecting parts such as wire harnesses, if the application of tester probes to the center airbag sensor assembly connector is necessary.
(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds
(c) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly.
(d) Disconnect the connectors from the steering pad.
(e) Disconnect the connector from the front passenger airbag assembly.
(f) Disconnect the connector from the front seat airbag assembly LH.
(g) Disconnect the connector from the front seat airbag assembly RH.
HINT: Skip the following steps if side and curtain shield airbags are not fitted.
(h) Disconnect the connector from the curtain shield airbag assembly LH.
(i) Disconnect the connector from the curtain shield airbag assembly RH.
(j) Disconnect the connector from the front seat outer belt assembly LH.
(k) Disconnect the connector from the front seat outer belt assembly RH.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK DTC
(a) Proceed to the appropriate step according to DTC readings.
(1) Check the DTC DTC Check / Clear.

2. CHECK CONNECTOR OF CONNECTORS
(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the side airbag sensor assembly LH and the rear airbag sensor LH.
OK:
The connectors are properly connected.
NG -- CONNECT CONNECTORS
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. CHECK CONNECTORS
(a) Check that the connectors (on the side airbag sensor assembly LH side and rear airbag sensor LH side) are not damaged Electronic Circuit Inspection Procedure.
OK:
The connectors are not deformed or damaged.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE WIRE HARNESS
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (FOR OPEN)
SST: 09843-18040




(a) Disconnect the connectors from the side airbag sensor assembly LH and the rear airbag sensor LH.
(b) Using SST, connect S13-2 (BCL+) and S13-1 (BCL-) of connector C.
(c) Measure the resistance.
Standard resistance:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (FOR SHORT)




(a) Disconnect the SST from connector C.
(b) Disconnect the connectors from the side airbag sensor assembly LH and rear airbag sensor LH.
(c) Measure the resistance.
Standard resistance:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

6. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (TO B+)




(a) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(c) Measure the voltage.
Standard voltage:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

7. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (TO GROUND)




(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Measure the resistance.
Standard resistance:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

8. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH




(a) Connect the connector to the side airbag sensor assembly LH.
(b) Interchange the rear airbag sensor LH with the rear airbag sensor RH and connect the connectors to them.
(c) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(d) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(e) Clear any DTCs stored in the memory DTC Check / Clear.
(f) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(g) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(h) Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
Result:






C -- USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK
B -- REPLACE REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH
A -- Continue to next step.

9. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY LH




(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Return the rear airbag sensor LH and RH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.
(d) Interchange the side airbag sensor assembly LH with the side airbag sensor assembly RH and connect the connectors to them.
(e) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(f) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(g) Clear any DTCs stored in the memory DTC Check / Clear.
(h) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(i) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(j) Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
Result:





HINT: DTCs other than B1630/23 and B1635/24 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

C -- USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK
B -- REPLACE SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY LH

10. REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY




(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Replace the center airbag sensor assembly Removal.
HINT: Perform the inspection using parts from a normal vehicle when possible.
(d) Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor assembly.
(e) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(f) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(g) Clear any DTCs stored in the memory DTC Check / Clear.
(h) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(i) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(j) Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
OK:
DTC B1630/23 is not output.
HINT: DTCs other than B1630/23 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

OK -- END
NG -- Continue to next step.

11. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH




(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Replace the rear airbag sensor LH for Double Cab Removal or for Access Cab Removal.
(d) Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor assembly.
(e) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(f) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(g) Clear any DTCs stored in the memory DTC Check / Clear.
(h) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(i) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(j) Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
OK:
DTC B1630/23 is not output.
HINT: DTCs other than B1630/23 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

NG -- REPLACE SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY LH
OK -- END
12. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS
(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the side airbag sensor assembly RH and the rear airbag sensor RH.
OK:
The connectors are properly connected.
NG -- CONNECT CONNECTORS
OK -- Continue to next step.

13. CHECK CONNECTORS
(a) Check that the connectors (on the side airbag sensor assembly RH side and airbag sensor rear RH side) are not damaged Electronic Circuit Inspection Procedure.
OK:
The connectors are not deformed or damaged.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE WIRE HARNESS
OK -- Continue to next step.

14. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (FOR OPEN)
SST: 09843-18040




(a) Disconnect the connectors from the side airbag sensor assembly RH and the rear airbag sensor RH.
(b) Using SST, connect S14-2 (BCR+) and S14-1 (BCR-) of connector C.
(c) Measure the resistance.
Standard resistance:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

15. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (FOR SHORT)




(a) Disconnect the SST from connector C.
(b) Measure the resistance.
Standard resistance:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

16. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (TO B+)




(a) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(c) Measure the voltage.
Standard voltage:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

17. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (TO GROUND)




(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Measure the resistance.
Standard resistance:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

18. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH




(a) Connect the connector to the side airbag sensor assembly RH.
(b) Interchange the rear airbag sensor RH with the rear airbag sensor LH and connect the connectors to them.
(c) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(d) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(e) Clear any DTCs stored in the memory DTC Check / Clear.
(f) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(g) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(h) Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
Result:






C -- USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK
B -- REPLACE REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH
A -- Continue to next step.

19. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH




(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Return the rear airbag sensor LH and RH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.
(d) Interchange the side airbag sensor assembly RH with the side airbag sensor assembly LH and connect the connectors to them.
(e) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(f) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(g) Clear any DTCs stored in the memory DTC Check / Clear.
(h) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(i) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(j) Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.

20. REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY




(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Replace the center airbag sensor assembly Removal.
HINT: Perform the inspection using parts from a normal vehicle when possible.
(d) Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor assembly.
(e) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(f) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(g) Clear any DTCs stored in the memory DTC Check / Clear.
(h) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(i) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(j) Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
OK:
DTC B1635/24 is not output.
HINT: DTCs other than B1635/24 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

21. REPLACE REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH




(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Replace the rear airbag sensor RH for Double Cab Removal or for Access Cab Removal.
(d) Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor assembly.
(e) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(f) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(g) Clear any DTCs stored in the memory DTC Check / Clear.
(h) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(i) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(j) Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
OK:
DTC B1635/24 is not output.
HINT: DTCs other than B1635/24 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

NG -- REPLACE SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH

22. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS
(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the side airbag sensor assembly LH and the rear airbag sensor LH.
(d) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the side airbag sensor assembly RH and the rear airbag sensor RH.
OK:
The connectors are properly connected.
NG -- CONNECT CONNECTORS
OK -- Continue to next step.

23. CHECK CONNECTORS
(a) Check that the connectors (on the side airbag sensor assembly LH side and airbag sensor rear LH side) are not damaged Electronic Circuit Inspection Procedure.
(b) Check that the connectors (on the side airbag sensor assembly RH side and airbag sensor rear RH side) are not damaged Electronic Circuit Inspection Procedure.
OK:
The connectors are not deformed or damaged.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE WIRE HARNESS

24. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (FOR OPEN)
SST: 09843-18040




(a) Disconnect the connectors from the side airbag sensor assembly LH and the rear airbag sensor LH.
(b) Using SST, connect S13-2 (BCL+) and S13-1 (BCL-) of connector C.
(c) Measure the resistance.
Standard resistance:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

25. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (FOR SHORT)




(a) Disconnect the SST from connector C.
(b) Disconnect the connectors from the side airbag sensor assembly LH and rear airbag sensor LH.
(c) Measure the resistance.
Standard resistance:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

26. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (TO B+)




(a) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(c) Measure the voltage.
Standard voltage:

27. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (TO GROUND)

(a) Disconnect the connectors from the side airbag sensor assembly RH and the rear airbag sensor RH.
(b) Using SST, connect S14-2 (BCR+) and S14-1 (BCR-) of connector C.
(c) Measure the resistance.
Standard resistance:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

29. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (FOR SHORT)




(a) Disconnect the SST from connector C.
(b) Measure the resistance.
Standard resistance:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

30. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (TO B+)




(a) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(c) Measure the voltage.
Standard voltage:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

31. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (TO GROUND)




(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Measure the resistance.
Standard resistance:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

32. REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY




(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Replace the center airbag sensor assembly Removal.
HINT: Perform the inspection using parts from a normal vehicle when possible.
(d) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(e) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(f) Clear any DTCs stored in the memory DTC Check / Clear.
(g) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(h) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(i) Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
OK:
DTC B1630/23 and B1635/24 are not output.
HINT: DTCs other than B1630/23 and B1635/24 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

33. REPLACE REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH




(a) Connect the connectors to the side airbag sensor assembly RH, the side airbag sensor assembly LH and center airbag sensor assembly.
(b) Replace the rear airbag sensor RH and the rear airbag sensor LH for Double Cab Removal or for Access Cab Removal.
HINT: Perform the inspection using parts from a normal vehicle when possible.
(c) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(d) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(e) Clear any DTCs stored in the memory DTC Check / Clear.
(f) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(g) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(h) Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
OK:
DTC B1630/23 and B1635/24 are not output.
