A340E Automatic Transmission System

A340E AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SYSTEM: P0705: Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input)
P0705 - Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input)

DESCRIPTION

The park/neutral position switch detects the shift lever position and sends signals to the ECM.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

These DTCs indicate a problem with the park/neutral position switch and the wire harness in the park/neutral position switch circuit.

For security, the park/neutral position switch detects the shift lever position so that the engine can be started only when the shift lever is in P or N.

When the park/neutral position switch sends more than one signal at a time from switch positions P, R, N, D, 3, 2 or L, the ECM interprets this as a fault in the switch. The ECM turns on the MIL and stores a DTC.

MONITOR STRATEGY

TYPICAL ENABLING CONDITIONS

TYPICAL MALFUNCTION THRESHOLDS

- One of the following conditions is met: Condition (A), (B) or (C)

Condition (A)

- When 2 or more of the following signals are input at the same time

Condition (B)

- All of following conditions are met

Condition (C)

- When any of following conditions is met, the 3 position signal is ON

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
Perform the universal trip to clear permanent DTCs DTC Check / Clear.

HINT
According to the Data List displayed by Techstream, you can read the values of switches, sensors, actuators and so on without removing parts. Reading the Data List as the first step of troubleshooting is one method to save time.

NOTICE:
In the table below, the values listed under "Normal Condition" are reference values. Do not depend solely on these reference values when deciding whether a part is faulty or not.

1. Warm up the engine.

2. Turn the ignition switch off.

3. Connect Techstream to the DLC3.

4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

5. Turn the Techstream on.

6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / All Data.

7. According to the display on the Techstream, read the Data List.

PROCEDURE

1. INSPECT SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU (TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH)

(a) Disconnect the shift lock control ECU connector.

(b) Measure the resistance when the shift lever is moved to each position.

Standard resistance:

NG -- REPLACE SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU Disassembly
OK -- Continue to next step.

2. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

(a) Connect the shift lock control ECU connector.

(b) Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

(c) Measure the resistance when the shift lever is moved to each position.

Standard resistance:

NG -- REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM)

(a) Connect the park/neutral position switch connector.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

(c) Measure the voltage when the shift lever is moved to each position.

Standard voltage:

HINT
*: The voltage will drop slightly due to the illumination of the back up light.

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

OK -- REPLACE ECM Removal
