Removal

A340F AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY: REMOVAL

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

2. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

3. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Regular Cab) Removal

4. REMOVE FRONT FENDER SEAL LH





(a) Remove the 5 clips and front fender seal LH.

5. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

(a) Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector and the heated oxygen sensor harness clamp.





(b) Disconnect the air fuel ratio sensor connector and the air fuel ratio sensor harness clamp.





6. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY Removal

7. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY

8. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for Regular Cab)

9. REMOVE PROPELLER WITH CENTER BEARING SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for Access Cab)

10. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID

(a) Remove the drain plug gasket, and drain ATF.

(b) Install a new gasket and drain plug.

Torque : 20 Nm (204 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf)

11. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL LEVEL GAUGE SUB-ASSEMBLY

12. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL FILLER TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY





(a) Remove the 2 bolts and oil filler tube.

13. DISCONNECT NO. 1 OIL COOLER OUTLET TUBE





(a) Using a union nut wrench, disconnect the No. 1 oil cooler outlet tube.

14. DISCONNECT NO. 1 OIL COOLER INLET TUBE Removal

15. REMOVE MANIFOLD STAY





(a) Remove the 3 bolts and manifold stay.

16. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY





(a) Remove the nut and clip, and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly.

17. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY





(a) Support the automatic transmission assembly with a transmission jack.

18. REMOVE NO. 3 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 4 bolts from the No. 3 frame crossmember sub-assembly.





(b) Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts and No. 3 frame crossmember sub-assembly.





19. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY Removal

20. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTORS





(a) Tilt down the transmission.

NOTICE:
Take care so that the cooling fan does not come in contact with the fan shroud.

(b) Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

(c) Disconnect the transmission wire connector.

(d) Disconnect the 2 speed sensor connectors.

(e) Disconnect the temperature sensor connector.

(f) Disconnect the transfer control side connector.

(g) Detach the connector clamp and 7 harness clamps, and disconnect the wire harness.





21. DISCONNECT TRANSFER BREATHER HOSE





(a) Disconnect the transfer breather hoses from the transfer breather bracket.

22. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove flywheel housing dust seal.

(b) Using SST, hold the crankshaft pulley.

(c) Remove the 6 torque converter setting bolts.





(d) Remove the 8 bolts.





(e) Separate and remove the automatic transmission.

23. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY

24. REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET





(a) Remove the 2 bolts and the No. 1 transmission control cable bracket.

25. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR





(a) Remove the 4 bolts and the No. 1 engine mounting insulator rear.

26. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY

27. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER A340F Automatic Transmission

28. INSPECT DRIVE PLATE AND RING GEAR A340F Automatic Transmission
