A750E Automatic Transmission System
A750E AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SYSTEM: P0705: Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input)
P0705 - Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input)
DESCRIPTION
The park/neutral position switch detects the shift lever position and sends signals to the ECM.
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
This DTC indicates a problem with the park/neutral position switch or the wire harness in the park/neutral position switch circuit.
For security, the park/neutral position switch detects the shift lever position so that the engine can be started only when the shift lever is in P or N.
When the park/neutral position switch sends more than one signal at a time from switch positions P, R, N, D, 3 or 2, the ECM interprets this as a fault in the switch. The ECM will turn on the MIL and store the DTC.
MONITOR STRATEGY
TYPICAL ENABLING CONDITIONS
TYPICAL MALFUNCTION THRESHOLDS
- One of the following conditions is met: Condition (A), (B) or (C)
Condition (A)
- When 2 or more of the following signals are input at the same time
Condition (B)
- All of following conditions are met
Condition (C)
- When any of following conditions is met, the 4 or L position signal is ON

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
NOTICE:
Perform the universal trip to clear permanent DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
HINT
Using the Techstream to read the Data List allows the values or states of switches, sensors, actuators and other items to be read without removing any parts. This non-intrusive inspection can be very useful because intermittent conditions or signals may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Reading the Data List information early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time.
NOTICE:
In the table below, the values listed under "Normal Condition" are reference values. Do not depend solely on these reference values when deciding whether a part is faulty or not.
1. Warm up the engine.
2. Turn the ignition switch off.
3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
5. Turn the Techstream on.
6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List.
7. According to the display on the Techstream, read the Data List.

PROCEDURE
1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IG1 FUSE - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH)
(a) Disconnect the connector from the park/neutral position switch.
(b) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage:
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NSW TERMINAL VOLTAGE)
(a) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage:
NG -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM)
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY
(a) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
NG -- REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. INSPECT SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU SUB-ASSEMBLY (TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH)
(a) Connect the park/neutral position switch connector.
(b) Disconnect the connector from the shift lock control ECU.
Standard Resistance:
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
NG -- REPLACE SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU)
(a) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(b) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage:
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM)
(a) Connect the shift lock control ECU connector.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage:
HINT
*: The voltage will drop slightly due to illumination of the back up light.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- REPLACE ECM Removal
7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM)
(a) Disconnect the connector from the ECM.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
