Overview of Final Drive Adjustments

1 Input gear
- Adjusting. Input Gear
2 - Tapered roller bearings for input gear
- Always replace together
- Measure friction torque via drive pinion. Friction torque of new tapered roller bearings must be 180-220 Ncm (116-20 inch lb) greater than friction torque of pinion shaft
3 Shim for input gear
- Determine thickness on basis of table. Drive Pinion
- Determine part number from parts catalog microfiche
4 Drive pinion
- Adjusting. Drive Pinion
- If input gear, differential and drive pinion tapered roller bearings are replaced then the overall friction torque must be 220-420 Ncm (119-37 inch lb)
5 Tapered roller bearings for drive pinion
- Always replace together
- Re-determine shim when replacing tapered roller bearings
- Friction torque of new tapered roller bearings must be 80-120 Ncm (7-11 inch lb)
6 Shim for drive pinion
- Determine thickness on basis of table. Drive Pinion
- Determine part number from parts catalog microfiche
7 Final drive gear wheel
8 Tapered roller bearings for differential
- Always replace together
- Measure friction torque through the drive pinion. Friction torque of new tapered roller bearings must be 50-90 Ncm (4-8 inch lb) greater than drive pinion friction torque
9 Shim for differential
- Determine thickness from table. Differential
10 Differential
- Adjusting. Differential
