DTC 2242

DTC 2242 (California)

1. With the ignition "OFF", disconnect the Digifant control unit harness connector. The Digifant control unit is located at the rear of the engine compartment. For these tests it may be easier to remove the control unit from its mount, this will allow better access to the harness connector pins.

Digifant I 38 Pin Control Unit Connector:

2. Connect a suitable volt/ohm meter between terminal 10 and 28 of the Digifant control unit harness connector. Set the volt/ohm meter to ohms.

^ The correct measurement should be 0 to 2 ohms.

Special Tools:

CAUTION: Avoid damaging the delicate connectors within the control unit harness connector. A simple set of test leads can be fabricated using flat connectors (part # VW N 17 457 2) or equivalent, and a pair of alligator clips.

C.O. Potentiometer:

3. If the correct measurement is obtained the problem is intermittent.

^ Check the harness and connectors for poor connections.

4. If the correct measurement is not obtained, disconnect the CO potentiometer connector and check for continuity between terminal:

a. 10 of the Digifant control unit harness connector and terminal 1 of the CO potentiometer harness connector.

b. 28 of the Digifant control unit harness connector and terminal 3 of the CO potentiometer harness connector.

^ The correct measurement should be less than 1 ohm (continuity).

If the correct measurements are not obtained, repair or replace the harness as necessary.

If the correct measurements are obtained continue with test.

5. Connect volt/ohm meter between terminal 1 and 3 of the CO potentiometer plug and measure the resistance.

^ The correct measurement should be approx. 0 to 2 ohms.

If the correct measurements are not obtained, the CO potentiometer is defective. Replace the CO potentiometer.
