DTC 2341

DTC 2341 (California)

1. Check the idle speed and CO level. If they are both within specification the problem is intermittent. If they are not within specifications continue.
2. Check and repair possible vacuum leaks at the intake system (injector seals, intake boot, etc.) .
3. Verify correct operation of the carbon canister system and that the hoses are OK (check for leaks). Refer to EMISSION CONTROLS.
4. Check the fuel injectors for possible leaks. Refer to FUEL SYSTEMS.
5. With the ignition "OFF", disconnect the Digifant control unit harness connector. The Digifant control unit is located at the rear of the engine compartment. For these tests it may be easier to remove the control unit from its mount, this will allow better access to the harness connector pins.

Heated Oxygen Sensor:

6. Disconnect the oxygen sensor harness connector, located at the rear of the engine compartment.

Digifant I 38 Pin Control Unit Connector:

7. Connect a suitable volt/ohm meter between terminal 1 of the Digifant control unit harness connector and terminal 2 of the oxygen sensor harness connector. Set the volt/ohm meter to ohms.

^ The correct measurement should be continuity, (1.5 ohm maximum).

Special Tools:

CAUTION: Avoid damaging the delicate connectors within the control unit harness connector. A simple set of test leads can be fabricated using flat connectors (part # VW N 17 457 2) or equivalent, and a pair of alligator clips.

8. Connect volt/ohm meter between terminal 16 of the Digifant control unit harness connector and terminal 3 of the oxygen sensor harness connector.

^ The correct measurement should be continuity, (1.5 ohm maximum).

9. Connect volt/ohm meter between terminal 9 of the Digifant control unit harness connector and terminal 3 of the oxygen sensor harness connector.

^ The correct measurement should be infinite ohms (no continuity).

10. Reconnect the oxygen sensor harness connector.
11. Connect volt/ohm meter between terminals 1 and 16 of the Digifant control unit harness connector.

^ The correct measurement should be infinite ohms (no continuity).

If the correct measurement is not obtained, repair or replace the harness as necessary. Refer to CHASSIS ELECTRICAL DIAGRAMS.

If the correct measurement is obtained refer to "Control Checking". Testing and Inspection
