Oil Pressure And Oil Pressure Switch, Checking

Special tools needed:
Oil pressure gauge VAG 1342
LED tester VAG 1527
Test kit VAG 1594

NOTE: Troubleshooting and repairing the oil pressure warning light and chime refer to Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting and Component Locations.





- Remove oil pressure switch, 0.3 bar color brown and install in oil pressure gauge.

- Install pressure gauge in place of oil pressure switch into oil filter flange.

- Connect brown wire of gauge to ground.

- Connect LED tester 1527 with jumper cable from test kit VAG 1594 to battery plus (+) and oil pressure switch 0.3 bar -A-. LED must light up.

- Start engine and increase rpm slowly. At 0.15 to 0.45 bar LED must go out. If not, replace pressure switch 0.3 bar.

- Connect LED tester to oil pressure switch 1.4 bar (black insulation) -B-. At 1.2 to 1.6 bar, LED must light up. If not, replace pressure switch 1.4 bar (F1).

- Increase engine speed further. At 2000 rpm and oil temperature at 80° C (176° F), the pressure must be at least 2.0 bar.

At higher engine speed the oil pressure must not exceed 7.0 bar. Replace oil pump if necessary.
