Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

NOTE: After eliminating any malfunctions, check DTC memory again as follows and then erase it.

Special Tools, Testers And Auxiliary Items:
- VAG 1551 or 1552 Scan Tool with adaptor cable VAG 1551/3

Test Conditions:
- Malfunctions (if any) eliminated

Work Sequence:
- Connect VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool
- Press 0 and 1 buttons to select address word 01 "engine electronics"
Display will appear as shown:

Select function XX


- Press 0 and 2 buttons to select Function 02 "check DTC memory"
- Press Q button to enter input
- Press -> button until all stored malfunctions have been displayed and the current display reads as shown:

- Press 0 and 5 buttons to select Function 05 "Erase DTC memory
- Press Q button to enter input
Display will appear as shown:

Rapid data transfer ->
DTC memory is erased!


If DTC memory will not erase, there is still a stored malfunction in the system which must first be corrected
- Press -> button
Display will appear as shown:

Select function XX


- Press 0 and 6 buttons to select Function 06 "end data transfer"
- Press Q button to enter input
- Perform road test and check DTC memory again
No malfunctions should be displayed

If DTC memory has been erased:
- Create readiness code again
