Preparation

Check the settings of both CD changer angle of installation selection switches. For Golf/Cabrio/Jetta application, switches must be set to the vertical ("V") position Switches are located on side and bottom of CD changer.

NOTE: CD playback will skip if switches are not set correctly.

Setting Sides:
- If necessary, remove brackets on sides of CD changer.





- Insert tip of small screwdriver into round hole and slide switch completely to the vertical ("V") position.

NOTE:
- Angle of installation selection switches may be preset at the manufacturer for horizontal ("H") installation.
- Always check/set switches prior to CD changer installation
- Switches must move completely to their end positions.





- Cover selector switch openings with supplied self adhesive seals.
- Reinstall brackets on sides of CD changer.

NOTE: Before proceeding with installation:
- Obtain radio security code.
- Note customer's pre-set radio stations.
- Ensure ignition is switched off.
- Disconnect Battery Ground (GND) strap.
- Inspect vehicle for CD-prep.

CD-Prep, Inspection:





If vehicle is factory equipped with CD changer cable -1- (location under rear seat as shown):
- Complete routing of CD changer cable:
- If necessary remove rear seat and center luggage compartment floor carpet.
- Route CD changer cable along passenger side sill panel, under rear seat, and into luggage compartment area to right rear as shown (fasten with adhesive tape).





- Fasten ground connection as shown.
- See Preparation, All, Cont., below.

If vehicle is not factory equipped with CD changer cable:
- Remove radio using tool VW160.
- Remove passenger side knee bar (or tray if equipped).





- Connect CD changer cable connector -1- to free 8 pin terminal on rear of radio (upper right connector on radio).
- Feed remaining CD changer cable into area of removed passenger side knee bar (or tray) for routing.
- Secure CD changer cable to existing wiring harness using supplied cable ties -3-, or use adhesive tape to route along metal framework.

NOTE: Ensure CD changer cable is secured in a manner to prevent raffles and squeaks.

- Feed remaining CD changer cable into passenger's footwell kick panel area for routing along passenger sill panel.
- Reinstall radio and passenger side knee bar (or tray), making sure that CD changer cable is not pinched.





- Remove passenger side footwell trim -2- and sill panel trim -1-.
- Lift rear seat bottom cushion and remove rear sill panel trim -4-. See Preparation, All, Continued, below.

Preparation, All, Continued:





- Secure CD changer cable to sill panel at all of the vehicle main harness clamp locations as illustrated.
- Lift right rear luggage compartment side panel carpet below "C" pillar as necessary.
- Route CD changer cable into area behind carpet and fasten with adhesive tape as shown.





- Measure, mark and center punch mounting holes for CD changer mounting bracket as illustrated.

- Drill 4 mm holes at marked locations.
- Fasten ground connection as shown -arrow-.





- Mount CD changer bracket -2- to main bracket -3- using supplied nuts -8-.
- If necessary, mount support -6- to CD changer -1- using supplied self tapping screws -5-.
- Mount CD changer -1- to changer bracket -2- using supplied self tapping screws -7-.





NOTE: When mounting CD changer into bracket, connector cable -arrow- must pass under bracket as shown.

- Refit side panel carpet below "C" pillar.





- Connect CD changer cable to CD changer connector -arrow-.
- Route and secure excess cable as necessary.
- Locate previously drilled holes through carpet, fasten CD changer assembly to vehicle floor rail (over carpet) at drilled locations using self tapping screws.
- Reinstall and secure all previously removed sill panel trim, seat cushions and luggage compartment carpet.
- Vacuum luggage compartment (including underneath all carpet areas if necessary).
- Reconnect Battery Ground (GND) strap, recode radio and set customer's preset radio stations.
- Code "Sound System" for CD changer. Testing and Inspection
- Refer to CD changer owners guide and check proper operation of CD changer.
- Ensure CD changer owner's guide is forwarded to customer.
