Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Testing and Inspection

Special tools and equipment

- VAG 1594 Adapter set
- VAG 1526 Portable multimeter or VAG 1 715 Multimeter
- Wiring diagram

Check conditions






- Fuse 34 must be OK.
- Radiator fan thermo switch (F18) OK.

Test sequence

- Pull 3 pin connector off radiator fan thermo switch (F18).
- Switch on ignition.






- Bridge contact -1- and contact -2- of connector with auxiliary cables from VAG 1 594.
Radiator fan (V7) 1st speed must run.

- Bridge contact-1- and contact -3- of connector with auxiliary cables from VAG 1594.
Radiator fan (V7) 2nd speed must run.

If 1st or 2nd fan speed does not run:
- Locate and correct open circuit using wiring diagram

If no open circuit can be found:
- Replace radiator fan (V7).
