Radiator: Service and Repair





Radiator, removing and installing

Special tools and equipment

- VAG 1306 Drip tray
- VAG 1331 Torque wrench (5-50 Nm)

Removing

- Drain coolant, refer to Coolant - Service and Repair - Procedure Service and Repair
- Removing front bumper, refer to Body and Frame - Bumper Bumper
- Pull coolant hoses off radiator.
- Disconnect connectors from thermo-switch.

Vehicles with automatic transmission

- Removing ATF lines/hoses from radiator, refer to Transmission and Drivetrain - Automatic Transmission/Transaxle - Fluid Line/Hose - Service and Repair - Procedures Service and Repair

Continued for all vehicles






- Unbolt power steering hydraulic oil cooling line -arrows- and ensure it is free. Do not open hydraulic oil circuit.
- Remove upper radiator securing clips and take out radiator forward.

Vehicles with air conditioner

- Observe additional information and removal instructions.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order, when doing this note the following:

Vehicles with automatic transmission

- Check ATF level, refer to Transmission and Drivetrain - Automatic Transmission/Transaxle - Fluid-A/T - Service and Repair - Procedures Service and Repair

Continued for all vehicles

- Fill engine with coolant.
- Check electrical connections and routing, refer to Diagrams - Electrical Electrical Diagrams
- Install front bumper, refer to Body and Frame - Bumper Bumper
- Check headlight adjustment and adjust if necessary, refer to Lighting and Horns - Headlamp - Adjustments Adjustments

Additional information and removal work on vehicles with air conditioner

WARNING!: The air conditioner refrigerant circuit must not be opened.

Note: To prevent damage to the condenser also to the refrigerant lines/hoses, ensure that the lines and hoses are not stretched, kinked or bent.

- Remove retaining clamp(s) from refrigerant lines.
- Remove condenser from radiator and pull forward as far as possible.
- Secure condenser to body so that refrigerant lines/hoses are not stressed.
- Pull radiator out between condenser and lock carrier.
