Electronic Brake Control Module: Testing and Inspection



Control Module, Coding
The Control Module in the vehicle is coded. New Control Modules from the parts system are not coded and, therefore, must be coded after installation.
Coding is only possible after the workshop code (WSC) has been entered into VAG 1551.

Test Sequence
- Determine engine code and type of ABS hydraulic Control Module installed in vehicle.
- Connect Scan tool VAG 1551 and select (address word -03-) "Brake electronics Control Module" with ignition switched on. VAG 1551 Scan Tool Connecting and Selecting Function





Indicated on display
- Input -07- for function "Code Control Module" and confirm with -Q- button.





Indicated on display
- Confirm input with -Q- button.





Indicated on display
- Enter code number for vehicle and confirm with -Q- button. refer to Scan tool VAG 1551 operating instructions





Scan tool VAG 1551 display will show Control Module identification, e.g.:

- Press -> button.

- Input -06- for "End output" function and confirm with -Q- button,

Note:
^ If the Control Module is incorrectly coded the ABS warning light -K47- lights up continuously and the brake system warning light -K118- lights up when 70 km/h (approx. 6 mph) or an engine speed of 2000 rpm has been exceeded once. Simultaneously an entry is made in the DTC memory refer to Checking DTC memory 02. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Memory Checking
^ If the Control Module is not coded (code 00000), the ABS warning light flashes once per second and the brake system warning light -K118- lights up when 10 km/h (approx. 6 mph) or an engine speed of 2000 rpm has been exceeded once.
