Test Box, Connecting For Wiring Test

Connecting test box to wiring harness of Engine Control Module (ECM)

Recommended special tools and equipment e.g.:

- V.A.G 1598/42 test box

- V.A.G 1598/39-1 adapter cable
- V.A.G 1598/39-2 adapter cable

Requirement
- Ignition is switched off.

Work procedure

- Remove cover -D- for plenum chamber, right side.

- Disengage and disconnect connector -A- of the corresponding Engine Control Module (ECM):
- Cylinder bank 1: Engine Control Module (ECM) -J623- (-1-).
- Cylinder bank 2: Engine Control Module 2 -J624- (-2-).

Connecting test box to Engine Control Module (ECM)-J623- for cylinder bank 1

- Connect test box (V.A.G 1598/42) to Engine Control Module (ECM) wiring harness using adapter cable (V.A.G 1598/39-1 or V.A.G 1598/39-2). Engine Control Module (ECM) is not connected.

Continuation for both Engine Control Modules (ECM)
When harness connectors are disconnected from the Engine Control Module (ECM) or the battery is disconnected, all adaptation values in the control module are erased. DTC memory content will remain intact however. If the engine is started after this, rough, uneven idle can result for a short time. In this case, the readiness code must be generated again. Connecting test box to Transmission Control Module (TCM)

Recommended special tools and equipment e.g.:

- V.A.G 1598/22 test box

Requirement
- Ignition is switched off.

Work procedure

NOTE: Transmission Control Module (TCM) is located in front right, below passenger seat.

- Disengage and disconnect connector -arrow A- from control module.
- Connect V.A.G 1598/22 test box at control module wiring harness.
