Variable Valve Timing Cover / Housing: Service and Repair

Control Housing Assembly Overview





1 Engine timing module

• Removing and installing, refer to --> [ Engine Timing Module ] Engine Timing Module.

2 Control housing

• insert with silicone sealant (D 176 501 A1), refer to --> [ Sealant Bead on Control Housing ]

3 20 Nm

• Observe tightening sequence, refer to --> [ Tightening Sequence of Bolts for Control Housing ]

4 20 Nm

5 Seal

• Do not additionally oil or grease sealing lip of oil seal.

• Before installing, remove oil remains from crankshaft journal with a clean cloth.

• Replacing, refer to --> [ Crankshaft Seal, Engine Timing Side ] Service and Repair.

6 Drive plate

• Removing and installing, refer to --> [ Drive Plate ] Service and Repair.

7 50 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°)

• Replace.

8 Washer

9 13 Nm

Sealant Bead on Control Housing





- Apply sealant bead onto the clean sealing surface of the control housing as shown.

Tightening Sequence of Bolts for Control Housing





- Tighten bolts in the sequence shown to 20 Nm.
