Radiator: Service and Repair






Radiator

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Refractometer (T10007)

Drip tray (V.A.G 1306) or ( VAS 6208)

Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Spring type clip pliers (VAS 5024 ) or spring type clip pliers (VAS 5024A )

Bolt M8 x 100

Sleeve, 80 mm long, for example engine/transmission holder supplementary set (VW 540/1 A)

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Adapter set for engine and transmission support ( VW 540/1 B)





Removing

- Drain coolant => [ Cooling System, Draining and Filling ] Cooling System, Draining and Filling.

- Remove the front piece.

- Pull off coolant hoses from radiator.

- Remove the connectors from the thermal switch and the radiator fan.

- Bring the lock carrier into service position. Radiator Support

- Support lock carrier using a sleeve - B -, 80 mm in length, e.g. from supplementary set for holding fixture (VW 540/1 A) and a bolt - A -, M8 x 100.





- Remove the radiator mounting bolts and remove the radiator downward.

With Air Conditioning

CAUTION!
The air conditioning refrigerant circuit must not be opened.

To prevent damage to condenser and also to the refrigerant lines/hoses, ensure that the pipes and hoses are not stretched, kinked or bent.

- If necessary, remove the refrigerant line retaining clamp(s).

- To remove the radiator, secure the condenser to the lock carrier.

- Remove the condenser from the radiator.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal, noting the following:

- Fill with coolant => [ Cooling System, Draining and Filling ] Cooling System, Draining and Filling.
