Valve Cover: Service and Repair






Cylinder Head Cover

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Sealant (AMV 174 004 01)

Removing

- Remove engine cover. First pull the front engine cover upward with a quick jerk - arrows A - and then pull it forward out of the rear mounting - arrow B -.





- Remove the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid valve ( N18) => [ Exhaust Gas Return Vacuum Regulator Solenoid Valve ] Service and Repair.

- If present, remove the insulation- arrow -.





- Remove upper toothed belt guard.

- Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose at connection of rear charge air tube.

- Unbolt the cylinder head cover.

Installing

Installation is performed in reverse order. When doing this note the following:

If damaged, replace the cylinder head cover seal and the bolt seals.

- Clean the sealing surfaces thoroughly with a clean cloth.

- Place a drop of sealant (AMV 174 004 01 ) (dia. approximately 5 mm) on both edges on the sealing surfaces of the front bearing cover/cylinder head- arrows -.





- Place a drop of sealant (AMV 174 004 01 ) (dia. approximately 5 mm) on both edges on the sealing surfaces of the rear bearing cover/cylinder head- arrows -.





- Install the cylinder head cover.

- Hand-tighten the cylinder head cover bolts in the sequence - 1 to 13 -.





- Tighten the bolts in the sequence - 1 to 13 - to 10 Nm.

- Install the Engine Control Module (ECM) ( N18 ) => [ Exhaust Gas Return Vacuum Regulator Solenoid Valve ] Service and Repair.
