Removal and Replacement

Selector Lever Cable

Removing

- First determine whether a coded radio is installed. In this case, determine anti-theft coding.

- Disconnect battery Ground (GND) cable with ignition switched off.

- Disconnect intake hose - 1 - and connector - 2 - from Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.





- Remove bolts - 3 - and - 4 -.

- Remove air filter completely.

- Remove securing plate - 1 -.





- Remove securing device - 2 - and pull off selector cable - 3 - from lever/selector shaft and pull through mounting bracket - 4 - toward rear.

- Raise vehicle.

- Loosen double clamp - A - and slide toward rear.





- Remove tunnel bridge - B - beneath exhaust system.

- Remove shielding plates - C - and - D -.

- First remove 4 nuts - arrows A -.





- Then remove two bolts - arrows B -.

- Carefully slide cover with protective sleeve forward over selector lever cable.

Do not damage protective sleeve when doing this.

- Using a screwdriver, pry off selector lever cable - 1 - from selector lever in direction of - arrow A -.





- Carefully pull selector lever cable out of selector mechanism housing - 2 -.

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

• Check protective sleeve for damage, protective sleeve can only be replaced together with selector lever cable.

• Check protective sleeve for correct seating and do not install protective sleeve twisted.

• Do not grease cable eyelet and ball socket.

• Do not bend or kink selector lever cable.

- Connect selector cable on to selector lever until tabs engage in groove of pin.

- Insert selector cable in selector mechanism housing.

- Install cover with seal glued on hand-tight on to selector mechanism housing.

While doing this, make sure seal makes correct contact.

- First tighten nuts - arrows A -.





- Then tighten both bolts - arrows B -.

- Insert protective sleeve of selector lever cable into cover.

- Guide selector cable - 3 - through mounting bracket - 4 - and press on to lever/selector shaft.





- Insert new securing plate - 1 - and securing device - 2 -.

- Assemble exhaust system free of tension and install tunnel bridge.

- Connect battery and observe safety precautions after connecting battery.

- Check shift mechanism => [ Shift Mechanism, Checking ] Procedures.

- Install complete air filter housing.
