Receiver Dryer: Service and Repair






Fluid Reservoir Dryer Cartridge

Under certain conditions, the dryer cartridge should no longer be replaced each time the refrigerant circuit is opened.

The fluid reservoir with dryer cartridge is mounted on the right or left side on the condenser depending on the engine type.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

A/C service station (VAS 6007A)

Not illustrated

Circlip pliers (commercially available)

Removing Passat from MY 2006

- Bring the lock carrier into service position. Radiator Support

- Remove mounting bolts for cooler - arrows -.





- Carefully push the radiator toward the engine until the cover bolt - arrow - is accessible.





Removing Passat CC from MY 2009

- Remove the front bumper cover.

- Remove the upper air guide on the lock carrier.

All vehicles

- Extract refrigerant e.g. using A/C service station (VAS 6007A), only then open the refrigerant circuit. Observe notes => [ Refrigerant Circuit Components ] [1][2]Description and Operation.

- Remove the cap 1.2 Nm ± 0.3 Nm. The illustration shows the Passat from MY 2006.

- Install a cylinder bolt (M5) into the thread in the cap.

CAUTION!
There is a danger of ice-up.

Refrigerant leaks out if refrigerant circuit is not discharged.

Refrigerant must be extracted before opening refrigerant circuit. If refrigerant circuit is not opened within 10 minutes of extraction, pressure may form in refrigerant circuit due to evaporation. Extract refrigerant once more.

- Push the cap downward and remove the circlip.

- Using pliers on the cylinder bolt - 2 - pull the cap - 1 - straight out in the direction of arrow.





- Using needle-nose pliers pull the dryer cartridge - 1 - in the direction of arrow.





Installing

Install in reverse order of removal.

Tightening specification, cap on fluid reservoir: 1.2 Nm ± 0.3 Nm
