Selector Lever Cable
• After installation, the cable must be checked for ease of movement and must be adjusted.
Removing
- Place the selector lever in the "S" position.
- Disengage the selector lever cable from the transmission by hand - 1 - and pull out of the bracket - 2 -.
- Handle with care and make sure not to kink the cable. Do not use pliers, otherwise the retainer straps may break off.
- Pry the cable - 1 - off the shift rod ball head - 3 - using an open end wrench - 2 -.
- Raise the vehicle.
For further removal of the cable and/or selector mechanism, the heat shield and, if necessary, the exhaust system components must now be removed.
- Remove the heat shield.
- Remove the shift mechanism housing beneath the selector mechanism.
- Disconnect the cable from the selector lever. To do so, press the pin upward using a screwdriver, at the same time push the securing catch for the pin forward - arrows -.
- Remove the locking washer for the cable cover. Always replace the locking washer.
- Remove the selector lever cable.
Installing
- Loosen the cable adjustment bolt.
Do not grease the cable.
- Route the selector lever cable free of tension, also insert it into the bracket on the transmission but do not secure it yet.
- Also clip the cable in the retainer. Make sure that the retainer does not make contact with the oil cooler.
- Nuts - 8 Nm
- Secure the cable with the pin to the selector lever and secure it to the bracket for the selector mechanism using a new locking washer.
- Install the selector mechanism housing, heat shield and exhaust system.
- After installation, check the cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Checking ] Testing and Inspection.
