Rear Final Drive Flange Seal, with Final Drive Installed
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Extractor lever (VW 681)
• Seal driver-front wheel bearing (30-20)
• Retainer (3415)
• Thrust piece (T10019)
• Puller (Kukko 12/1)
• Torque wrench (V.A.G 1601)
• Tension strap (T10038)
• Engine and transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A) with universal support (V.A.G 1359/2)
• Thread locking compound (D 000 600)
• Bolt M10 x 25
• Bolt M8 x 15
Removing
- Disconnect the exhaust system at the clamping sleeve - arrows - when removing the rear exhaust system components.
• The flex joint of the exhaust system must not be bent more than 10 degrees, otherwise it may be damaged.
- Remove the rear flexible disc:
• For the Passat, refer to => [ Rear Flexible Disc ] Service and Repair.
• For the Passat CC and Tiguan, refer to => [ Driveshaft Assembly Overview ] Driveshaft Assembly Overview From 07.07.
Passat
- Secure the vehicle on the hoist with the tensioning straps (T10038).
Continuation for All
CAUTION!
If the vehicle is not secured, there is the risk that it could slip from the hoist.
- Remove the rear final drive flange nut.
A Bolts M10 x 25
B Bolt M8 x 15 (installed in the counter support (3415) from the rear side)
- Remove the rear final drive flange. Use a slide hammer (Kukko 12/1) if it is difficult.
- Remove rear final drive flange seal using the extractor lever (VW 681).
Installing
- Before installing, lightly coat new seal on outside circumference and between sealing lips with high performance Haldex clutch oil.
- Drive in new seal to until seated using thrust piece (T10019). Do not tilt seal when doing this.
- Drive in rear final drive flange with sleeve (30 - 20).
- Insert new nut with locking fluid (D 000 600) and tighten to specifications.
A Bolts M10 x 20
B Bolt M8 x 15 (installed in the counter support (3415) from the rear side)
- Install the rear flexible disc:
• For the Passat, refer to => [ Rear Flexible Disc ] Service and Repair.
• For the Passat CC and Tiguan, refer to => [ Driveshaft Assembly Overview ] Driveshaft Assembly Overview From 07.07.
- Install the exhaust system and align it without tension.
- Check the oil level in the Haldex clutch:
• For the Passat, refer to => [ Generation II Haldex Clutch Oil Level, Checking and Filling ] Generation II Haldex Clutch Oil Level, Checking and Filling.
• For the Passat CC and Tiguan, refer to => [ Generation IV Haldex Clutch Oil Level, Checking and Filling ] Generation IV Haldex Clutch Oil Level, Checking and Filling.
