Vibration Damper
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Counter-Holder Tool (T10069)
• Two Arm Puller (T10040)
• The (T10040) is only necessary for tight fitting vibration dampers.
Removing
- Remove the ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Service and Repair.
- Lock the vibration damper using (T10069).
- Loosen the vibration damper bolt and unscrew it approximately 10 mm.
- If the vibration damper is loose, completely remove the bolt and remove the vibration damper.
- If the vibration damper cannot be removed, use the (T10040/2A).
Installing
Check the rubber connection between the inner and outer rings of the vibration damper for cracks and flaking. If rubber connection damage is identified, the vibration damper must be replaced.
- Clean the thread in the crankshaft with a M18 x 1.5 drilling tool.
- Replace the vibration damper bolts.
- Lock vibration damper using (T10069).
- Install and tighten the bolt using (V.A.G 1601). Tightening specification: 100 Nm + 180° (1/2) additional turn.
• The additional turning may be performed in several stages.
- Install the ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Service and Repair.
