Camshaft Front Cover Overview






1 Wiring Guide

For wiring harness

With coolant pipe

Coolant hose connection diagram, refer to => [ Coolant Hose Connection Diagram ] [1][2]Cooling System.

2 Stud bolt

8 Nm

For ground connection

3 Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor 2 (G163)

For the exhaust camshaft

Mark the connector belonging to the component before disconnecting

4 Chain Tensioner

40 Nm

For the camshaft timing chain => [ (Item 9) Camshaft Timing Chain ] Cylinder Head and Cover Overview

Only rotate engine with chain tensioner installed

5 Seal

Replace if damaged or leaking

6 Bracket

7 Seals

For camshaft adjustment valve 1 (N205) , => [ (Item 11) ] Cylinder Head and Cover Overview and exhaust camshaft adjustment valve 1 (N318) => [ (Item 12) ] Cylinder Head and Cover Overview.

Replace if damaged or leaking

Installing, refer to => [ Camshaft Front Cover Seal, Installing ].

10 Coolant Thermostat Housing

Coolant hose connection diagram. Refer to => [ Coolant Hose Connection Diagram ] [1][2]Cooling System.

For wiring harness

12 Seal

Replace

13 Camshaft Front Cover

Apply sealant (D 176 501 A1) to the sealing surfaces.

Prepare cylinder head gasket for installation. Refer to => [ Cylinder Head Gasket, Preparing for Assembly ] Cylinder Head.

14 Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor (G40)

For the intake camshaft

Mark the connector belonging to the component before disconnecting

15 O-ring

For the oil passage.

Replace

Lubricate before assembling.

Camshaft Front Cover Seal, Installing





Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Fitting Sleeve (3378)

Thrust Pad (3253/6)

- Do not lubricate seal.

- Install seal using (3378) into the cover - 1 - and pull in flush using (3253/6).
