Selector Shaft Seal






Selector Shaft Seal

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Sleeve (VW 423)

Pulling Hook (T20143)

Sealing grease (G 052 128 A1)

- Remove the air filter housing if it is located above the selector shaft.

Metal Relay Lever





- Pull off the securing clip - 2 - and press the relay lever - 3 - to the side and out of the mounting.

If the relay lever cannot be removed due to the transmission mount bracket, remove the selector cable from the lever. Remove the slide shoe from the transmission shift lever.

Plastic Relay Lever

- Remove the relay lever with the cable retainer. Refer to => [ Plastic Relay Lever ] Description and Operation.

Continuation for all Shift Mechanisms

- Remove the nut - 4 - and remove the transmission shift lever - 1 -.





- Pry out the seal using the (T20143/1).

- Lightly lubricate the outer circumference of the new seal.





- Fill the area between the sealing lip and dust lip - arrow - halfway with sealing grease (G 052 128 A1).

- Drive in the new seal until seated using the (VW 423).





The rest of the installation follows the reverse order of removal, noting the following:

- Install the transmission selector lever to the selector shaft of the transmission, refer to => [ Transmission Shift Lever,
Installing ] Shift Mechanism Overview and tighten the nut - item 17 -=> [ Self Locking Nut ] Shift Mechanism Overview to specification.

- Install the air filter housing, if it was removed earlier.
