Right Flange Shaft Seal, from November 1 2004
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Thrust Piece (3305)
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Sealing grease (G 052 128 A1)
Removing
- Remove the noise insulation.
- Remove the drive axle heat shield bolts - arrows - and shield, if necessary.
- Remove the left drive axle from the transmission and tie it up.
• On some engines, the drive axle cannot be tied up so that the flange shaft can be removed.
• Remove the drive axle.
- Remove the bolt - item 12 -=> [ Countersunk Bolt ] Differential for the flange shaft, by installing two bolts into the flange and counter holding the flange shaft using a pry bar.
- Place the appropriate receptacle underneath the transmission.
- Pull out the flange shaft with spring.
- Pry out the seal.
Installing
- Drive the new seal in until seated; be sure not to distort the seal.
- Fill the area between the sealing lip and dust lip halfway with sealing grease (G 052 128 A1).
- Secure the flange shaft - A - with the countersunk bolt - item 12 -=> [ Countersunk Bolt ] Differential and tighten to specification.
- Install the right drive axle.
- Install the drives axle heat shield and bolts - arrows -, if necessary.
- Check the transmission fluid. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid, Checking ] Service and Repair.
- Install the noise insulation.
