Radiator: Service and Repair
Radiator
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Refractometer (T10007)
• Adapter (VAG 1274/8)
• Drip tray (VAG 1306) or drip tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)
• Torque wrench (5-50 Nm) (VAG 1331)
• Spring type clip pliers (VAS 5024A)
• Cooling system charge unit (VAS 6096)
Removing
- Remove the noise insulation.
- Remove the front bumper.
- Bring the lock carrier into the service position. Radiator Support
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Draining and Filling.
- Disconnect all coolant hoses from the radiator.
- Remove the radiator fan shroud with fans. Refer to => [ Fan Shroud and Fans ] Service and Repair.
- Remove the bolts - 1 - from the radiator brackets.
- Swing the radiator slightly toward the rear.
- Remove the Air Conditioning (A/C) condenser bolts - 2 -.
- Remove the side bolt - arrow - for the condenser on radiator.
- Remove the radiator up and out.
Installing
Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal, noting the following:
• When installing a new radiator, the old coolant must not be reused.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Draining and Filling.
