Fuel Tank, Draining

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Fuel extracting device (VAS 5190)

Wrench (T10202)

Torque wrench (40-200 Nm) (VAG 1332)

- Read the safety precautions before beginning work. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Fuel Supply.

CAUTION!
Secure the (VAS 5190) ground wire to a bare area on the chassis.

- Remove the cone piece - 2 - from the shaft piece - 1 - of the (VAS 5190).

- Using insulating tape, apply a mark - arrow - on the hose 1,370 mm - a - from the end of suction hose.





- Remove the fuel filler cap from the fuel filler tube.

- Install the shaft piece - 1 - for the (VAS 5190 ) in the fuel tank filler tube.





- Slide the suction hose as far into the fuel tank until the mark applied earlier - arrow - aligns with the shaft piece.





- Empty the fuel tank as much as possible via the fuel filler tube.

- Carefully pull out the suction hose.

When no more fuel is being siphoned, the fuel tank is emptied just enough to open the fuel delivery unit safely. The tank may be removed while containing the remaining fuel.

Less Than 3/4 Full

To empty the fuel tank completely, fuel through the fuel delivery flange and fuel level sensor 2 flange must be extracted.

- Remove the rear seat bench.

- Remove the cover - arrows - from the fuel delivery unit.





CAUTION!
Fuel system is under pressure! Wear protective goggles and protective clothing to prevent injuries and contact with skin. Before disconnecting the connection, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release the pressure by carefully disconnecting the connection.

- Remove the electrical connector - 1 - and fuel lines - 2 and 3 - from the fuel delivery unit.





Press the buttons together on the hose connections to do so.

- Remove the locking ring using the (T10202).





- Lift the fuel delivery unit up.

- Install the (VAS 5190) suction hose as far as possible into the fuel tank and extract the fuel.

Emptying the Fuel Tank at the Fuel Level Sensor 2 Flange

- Remove the cover - 1 - and disconnect the 3 pin electrical connector - arrow - from the flange.





- Remove the locking ring using the (T10202).





- Lift the fuel level sensor 2 flange up.

- Install the (VAS 5190) suction hose as far as possible into the fuel tank and extract the fuel.

If the fuel tank needs only to be drained, reinstall the fuel level sensor 2 flange again. Refer to => [ Fuel Level Sensor 2 Installed Position ] Fuel Tank Assembly Overview.
