Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench (5-50 Nm) (VAG 1331)
• Used oil collecting and extracting device (VAG 1782 )
Removing
Short Description
The oil pump can be replaced without removing the transmission. The vehicle must be raised and any covers installed on the bottom of the front end must be removed. The control arm to strut connection must not be separated. Do not remove the drive axle either. It is not necessary to "perform basic calibration". Only the Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) oil and pump cover have to be replaced.
- Remove the noise insulation. as necessary.
- Remove the lower part of the left front wheel housing liner..
- Place the (VAG 1782) under the transmission.
- Remove the plug - A - near the pendulum support.
Up to transmission production date "September 20, 2004", transmissions with two plugs were installed.
Following that, the second plug was discontinued and the oil is drained and the oil level is checked only with the plug - A -.
The oil level in the transmission is determined with the length of the plastic overflow tube with 8 mm socket head (tightening specification: 3 Nm).
- Remove the overflow tube.
- Drain the oil
- Install the overflow tube and tighten by hand, tightening specification: 3 Nm.
- Replace the plug seal - arrow -
- Leave the (VAG 1782) under the transmission.
- Remove the bolt - arrows - and remove the oil pump cover - A -.
There is still oil in the oil pump cover.
- Remove the bolts - arrows - and the oil pump - 1 - from the alignment pins and remove the oil pump input shaft.
- Remove the upper bolt using the (T10054).
Installing
- Slide the oil pump driveshaft - A - into transmission until seated while turning the driveshaft slightly.
- Always use a new metal seal - B -.
• The 2 alignment pins - C - must be located in the transmission housing.
• When positioning the oil pump, be careful of the input shaft splines and ensure they are seated correctly on the alignment pins.
Various oil pump bolts - 1 -
All 4 bolts with flat head
Tightening specification:
• 5 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn
3 bolts have a flat head, the upper bolt is countersunk
Tightening specification
• Countersunk bolt: 8 Nm, tighten using the (T10054).
• Flat head bolts: 8 Nm + an additional 90° (1/ 4) turn.
- Set the new oil pump cover - A - in place and tighten the new bolts - arrows - in a diagonal sequence and in multiple stages to 8 Nm.
- Add new oil and adjust for the correct oil level
- Replace the DSG oil and filter. Refer to => [ Oil Filter, Changing and Oil Level, Adjusting ] 02E Transmission (Direct Shift Gearbox).
- Install the left front lower wheel housing liner.
- Install the noise insulation, as necessary.
