Shift Cable: Adjustments
Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench (5-50 Nm) (VAG 1331)
Selector lever cable must always be adjusted if,
• The selector lever cable was removed from the transmission.
• The engine and/or transmission was removed and installed.
• Parts of the subframe mount were removed and installed.
• The cable or selector mechanism was removed and installed.
• Engine/transmission positions changes, for example, were installed free of tension.
Adjusting
- Shift the selector lever to the "P" position.
Shift lever on transmission into the"P" position.
- Press the lever on the transmission back - arrow - to bring the transmission into the "P" position.
- Install the cable with a loosened adjustment bolt - arrow - and new lock washers - A and B -.
• Raise the vehicle to ensure that the transmission is in the " P" position (parking lock is engaged). Both front wheels must not be able to be turned together in one direction.
- Lightly tap the button on the selector lever knob forward and backward and make sure to keep the knob in the park position.
Thus, the optimal position of the inner cable is found.
- Tighten the adjustment bolt - arrow - to 13 Nm.
