Transmission Cooler: Service and Repair






Oil Cooler

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hose clamps up to 25 mm dia. (3094)

Torque wrench (5-50 Nm) (VAG 1331)

Removing

- Place the selector lever in the "P" position.

- Remove the battery and battery tray.

- Place a lint free cloth onto the oil cooler and transmission to absorb any leaking coolant.

- Clamp off the coolant hoses using the (3094) and remove the hoses from the oil cooler.





- Remove the bolt - A - and remove the transmission oil cooler - B -.





CAUTION!
Coolant must not drip into transmission!

Installing

- Replace the O-rings - C - for the oil cooler - B -.





- Set the oil cooler - B - in place, observing the O-rings - C -.

- Install new bolts - A - and tighten to 20 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4 ) turn.

- Install the coolant hoses to the oil cooler and remove the (3094).





- Install the new oil filter with the seat facing down and tighten the housing to 20 Nm.





- Install the battery and battery holder.

- Check the coolant level and top off as necessary. Refer to19 General Information.

- Fill the transmission oil after the repair without changing the filter. Refer to => [ Oil Filter, Changing and Oil Level, Adjusting ] 02E Transmission (Direct Shift Gearbox).

CAUTION!
Do not start the engine while checking the coolant level because no DSG oil has been added.
