Oil Pressure and Switch, Checking

Oil Pressure and Switch, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Oil Pressure Gauge (VAG 1342)

Voltage Tester (V.A.G 1527 B)

Connector Test Set (V.A.G 1594 C)

Function test and service of visual and acoustic oil pressure indicator. Refer to and "Guided Fault Finding" in the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051 or VAS 5052.

Test Sequence:

Vehicles with Engine Codes BKW:

- Remove the fuel filter. Refer to => [ Fuel Filter ] Removal and Replacement.

Vehicles with Engine Code BWF:

- Remove the bypass flap with cooler for Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). Refer to => [ Bypass Flap with Cooler for EGR ] Bypass Flap with Cooler for EGR.

Continuation for all Vehicles:

When removing the oil pressure switch, counter hold the banjo bolt so that leaks in the vicinity of the oil line are prevented.

- Remove the oil pressure switch (F1) and install it into the oil pressure gauge (V.A.G 1342).

- Install the oil pressure gauge into banjo fitting in place of the oil pressure switch.

- Connect the brown wire from the oil pressure gauge to ground (-).

- Connect the voltage tester (V.A.G 1527 B) diode test lamp to B+ and the oil pressure switch using the adapter cables from the connector test set (V.A.G 1594 C). The Light Emitting Diode (LED) must not light up.

Vehicles with Engine Code BKW:

- Install the fuel filter. Refer to => [ Fuel Filter ] Removal and Replacement.

Vehicles with Engine Code BWF:

- Install the bypass flap with cooler for Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). Refer to => [ Bypass Flap with Cooler for EGR ] Bypass Flap with Cooler for EGR.

Continuation for all Vehicles:

- Start the engine and slowly increase the engine speed.

- The LED must light up at 0.55 to 0.85 bar positive pressure, otherwise replace the oil pressure switch.

- Increase the engine speed further. At 2000 RPM and an oil temperature of 80 °C (176 °F), the oil pressure must be at least 2.0 bar.

Oil pressure must not exceed 7.0 bar at higher engine speeds.
