Diagnostic Mode 02 - Read Operating Conditions

Diagnostic Mode 02 - Read Operating Conditions

Function

When an emissions-related fault (pending DTC, visible in mode 07) is first detected, operating conditions are stored. Mode 02 makes it possible to access this freeze frame data as soon as this fault is shown in mode 03. Each control module only shows freeze frame data for one fault via mode 02. Therefore, there are two priority levels. If there is a malfunction with higher priority, the freeze frame data is overwritten.

- Fault with higher priority: Misfire malfunction or fuel trim malfunction.

- Fault with normal priority: All other emissions-related faults.

Procedure

- Connect diagnostic tester.

- Depending on the desired operating condition: switch on ignition

or start engine and let run at idle.

- Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 2: Check operating conditions."

- Select the desired operating condition "PID XX".

The operating conditions are sorted by the PID (parameter-identifications).

Bank 1 = Cylinder bank 1, in direction of travel, right.

Bank 2 = Cylinder bank 2, in direction of travel, left.

If DTCs are displayed in "PID 02":

- Repair stored malfunctions according to DTC table:

SAE P0xxx-DTCs => [ SAE P0xxx Diagnostic Trouble Codes ] Testing and Inspection.

SAE P1xxx-DTCs => [ SAE P1xxx Diagnostic Trouble Codes ] Testing and Inspection.

SAE P2xxx-DTCs => [ SAE P2xxx Diagnostic Trouble Codes ] Testing and Inspection.

SAE P3xxx-DTCs => [ SAE P3xxx Diagnostic Trouble Codes ] Testing and Inspection.

SAE U0xxx-DTCs => [ SAE U0xxx Diagnostic Trouble Codes ] Testing and Inspection.

- End diagnosis and switch ignition off.

The DTC table is sorted by SAE code.

"Emission"-relevant malfunctions are additionally indicated in the instrument cluster via the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL).
