Oil Pan
Oil Pan
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Socket XZN 8 (T40159)
• Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)
• Silicone Adhesive Sealant (D 176 501 A1)
• Hand Drill with Plastic Brush Attachment
• Flat Scraper
• Protective Eye wear
Removing
- Remove the noise insulation.
- Disconnect the connector from the oil level thermal sensor.
- Drain the engine oil.
- Remove the transmission pan bolts.
• Always follow the regulations for disposing of old engine oil!
- Remove the transmission oil pan bolts on the transmission side - arrows - using the socket XZN 8 (T40159).
- Remove the remaining oil pan bolts and then remove the oil pan.
- Loosen the oil pan with light blows from a rubber mallet, if necessary.
- Remove any sealant residue from the cylinder block with a flat scraper.
- Remove any sealant residue from the pan with a rotating brush, for example, using a hand drill with a plastic brush attachment (wear eye protection).
- Clean the sealing surfaces, they must be free of oil and grease.
Installing
• Note the expiration date of the sealant.
• The oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after application of the silicone sealant.
- Cut the sealant tube nozzle at the front mark (nozzle diameter: approximately 3 mm).
- Apply the silicone adhesive sealant (D 176 501 A1) , as shown, to the clean oil pan sealing surface. The sealant bead must be:
• 2 to 3 mm thick
• and run on the inside of the bolt holes - arrows -
• The sealant bead must not be thicker, otherwise the excess sealant will enter the oil pan and may block the suction pipe strainer.
- Apply the silicone adhesive sealant (D 176 501 A1) to the clean sealing surface as indicated in the illustration.
- Install the oil pan immediately and tighten all the oil pan bolts lightly.
- Tighten the oil pan bolts to 11 Nm.
- Tighten the oil pan to transmission bolts to 45 Nm.
• After installing the oil pan, allow the sealant to dry for approximately 30 minutes. Only after then may the engine oil be added.
Further installation is in the reverse order of removal.
