Mounting Bracket
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hose Clamps Up to 25 mm Dia. (3094)
• Hose Clip Pliers (VAS 6362)
• Sealing Tool (T10249)
Removing
- Determine whether a coded radio is installed. If so, obtain the anti-theft code.
- Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery ground cable.
- Remove the complete air filter housing if it located near the battery. Refer to one of the following:
Diesel engines.
Gas engines.
- Remove the battery and the battery tray.
• Be careful not to get any brake fluid on the longitudinal member or on the transmission when performing the following work. If it does, clean the area thoroughly.
• Place a lint free cloth under the master cylinder.
- Clamp off the supply hose going to the master cylinder using (3094).
- Loosen the spring clamp - 3 - using (VAS 6362) and remove the supply hose from the master cylinder.
- Moreover, after disconnecting, seal it using (T10249/1) (=> top illustration).
- Open the clip - 2 - using a screwdriver or with a pointed tool and remove the hose/line assembly (or plastic line) - 1 - from the master cylinder.
- Unclip the clutch position sensor (G476) from the master cylinder - arrow - and remove it with the connector - 4 - still connected.
• When working inside the footwell, cover the carpet with cloths to protect it from leaking brake fluid.
- Remove the trim and the cover under the trim on the driver side.
There are different ways of securing the impact bolster support - 1 - in front of the clutch pedal - 2 -. The impact bolster support may look different than what is shown in the following illustrations.
Securing with Two Bolts
- Remove the impact bolster support bolts and support - 1 -.
Securing with One Bolt
- Remove the impact bolster support bolt - 2 - and support - 1 -.
Continuation for All
- Remove the damper - arrow - from the clutch pedal bracket, if equipped.
- Remove the retainers - A - for the damper.
- Remove the damper.
- Push the damper near the upper nut - 1 - above the clutch pedal - A - in the - direction of the arrow -.
- Remove the nuts - 1 and 2 -.
The upper nut - 1 - is accessible between the relay carrier and steering column trim.
- Remove the bracket - 3 -.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal.
Some vehicles have a damper - arrow - over the clutch pedal bracket.
• Replace the self locking nuts.
• Replace the hose clamps
• Allocate all components via the Parts Catalog.
There are different ways of securing the impact bolster support - 1 - in front of the clutch pedal - 2 -.
Securing with Two Bolts
- Install the impact bolster support - 1 - and tighten the 2 bolts to specification.
Securing with One Bolt
- Install the impact bolster support - 1 - and tighten the bolt - 2 - to specification.
Continuation for All
- Attach the wire guide - 2 - to the steering column.
- Install the footwell vents - 3 -.
- Install the trim and the cover under the trim on the driver side.
- Press the hose/line assembly - 1 - or plastic line into the master cylinder connection - 4 - with a new seal - 2 - until the clip - 3 - engages audibly.
- Pull on the hose/line assembly or plastic line to make sure it is tight.
- After removing the (3094) bring the return hose back to its original shape.
- Bleed the clutch system. Refer to => [ Clutch System, Bleeding ] 0A4 Transmission.
- Install the battery.
- If removed, install the air filter housing. Refer to one of the following:
Diesel engines.
Gas engines.
