Upper Timing Chain Cover

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Torque wrench 5-60 Nm (VAG 1783)

• Open end spanner insert AF 10 (VAG 1783/1)

Removing

- Remove the camshaft adjustment valve 1. Refer to --> [ Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the bolts - 5 through 1 - and remove the upper timing chain cover.





Installing

• Tightening sequence and Specification, refer to --> [ Upper Timing Chain Cover Bolt Tightening Sequence and Specification ] Timing Chain Covers Assembly Overview.

Install in reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:

• Coat the seal and the O-ring with engine oil.

• Install the upper timing chain cover using the (VAG 1783) and the (VAG 1783/1), tightening sequence and specification. Refer to --> [ Upper Timing Chain Cover Bolt Tightening Sequence and Specification ] Timing Chain Covers Assembly Overview.
