Coolant Pump and Thermostat Assembly Overview





1 O-ring

Always replace.

Lubricate with coolant.

2 Connection

3 Retaining Clip

Ensure clip is securely seated.

4 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor (G62)

Removing and installing, refer to --> [ Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor ] Service and Repair.

5 O-ring

Always replace.

6 Bolt

7 Coolant Pump

Removing and installing, refer to --> [ Coolant Pump ] Coolant Pump.

On a new coolant pump, remove the protective cap.

8 Gasket

Always replace.

9 Centering Pins

10 Toothed Belt

For the coolant pump.

Removing and installing, refer to --> [ Coolant Pump Toothed Belt ] Coolant Pump Toothed Belt.

11 Toothed Belt Cover

12 Bolt, 9 Nm

13 Bolt, 10 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°)

Left hand threads.

Always replace.

14 Coolant Pump Drive Gear

Note the installed position: The collar on the drive gear faces the transmission.

15 Seal

Replacing, refer to --> [ Coolant Pump Drive Gear Seal ] Coolant Pump Drive Gear Seal.

16 Balance Shaft

17 Coolant Thermostat

Removing and installing, refer to --> [ Coolant Thermostat ] Coolant Thermostat.

18 Centering Pin

19 Connecting Piece

20 Bolt, 9 Nm

21 O-ring

Always replace.

Coolant Pump Bolt Tightening Sequence and Specification





Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench 5-50 Nm (VAG 1331)

- Tighten the coolant pump bolts in the sequence - 1 through 5 - shown to 9 Nm.
