B161E - Reading Lamp Control Circuit
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to.
• When Monitored: Continuously.
• Set Condition: When the instrument cluster detects a short to battery on the control circuit.
Test Step 1 - Test For Intermittent Condition
• Turn the ignition ON.
• Clear all instrument cluster DTCs.
• Turn the courtesy lamps ON.
• With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the scan tool display B161E - Reading Lamp Control Circuit?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 2.
No
• The conditions that caused this code to set are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
Test Step 2 - Test the Courtesy Lamp Driver Circuit for a Short to Ground
• Turn the ignition OFF.
• Disconnect the instrument cluster harness connector.
• Measure the resistance between the courtesy lamp driver circuit and ground.
Is the resistance less than 5.0 ohms?
Yes
• Repair the courtesy lamp driver circuit for a short to ground.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
No
• Go to Test Step 3.
Test Step 3 - Test the Courtesy Lamp Driver Circuit for an Open
• Activate the left and right vanity lamps if equipped, the glove box lamp, and the left and right door handle lamps.
• Turn the ignition ON.
• Measure the voltage of the glove box lamp driver circuit.
Is the voltage less than 10.0 volts?
Yes
• Repair the courtesy lamp driver circuit for an open.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
No
• Replace the instrument cluster.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
