B1660
B1660 - Front Fog Lamp Control Circuit High
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to.
Theory of Operation
The Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) receives a bus message requesting fog lamp illumination. When this bus message is received, the TIPM provides a voltage output through the front fog lamps relay driver circuit. The front fog lamps relay driver circuit connects to the Front Fog Lamps Relay, which when energized provides battery voltage to the Front Fog Lamps.
• When Monitored: With the fog lamps active.
• Set Condition: When the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) detects a high condition on the (L139) Front Fog Lamps Relay Driver circuit.
Test Step 1 - INTERMITTENT CONDITION
• Turn the ignition on.
• With the scan tool, clear all DTCs.
• Turn the ignition on.
• Turn the fog lamps on.
• With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the scan tool display DTC: B1660-FRONT FOG LAMP CONTROL CIRCUIT HIGH?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 2
No
• Test complete, the condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
Test Step 2 - CHECK THE FRONT FOG LAMPS RELAY
• Turn the fog lamps off.
• Turn the ignition off.
• Remove the Front Fog Lamps Relay and substitute it with a known good relay.
• Turn the ignition on.
• With the scan tool, clear all DTCs.
• Turn the fog lamps on.
• With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the scan tool display DTC: B1660-FRONT FOG LAMP CONTROL CIRCUIT HIGH?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 3
No
• Replace the Front Fog Lamps Relay.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
Test Step 3 - CHECK THE (L139) FRONT FOG LAMPS RELAY DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
• Turn the fog lamps off.
• Turn the ignition off.
• Remove the Front Fog Lamps Relay.
• Disconnect the TIPM C4 harness connector.
• Turn the ignition on.
• Measure the voltage between ground and the (L139) Front Fog Lamps Relay Driver circuit at the Front Fog Lamps Relay harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
• Repair the short to voltage in the (L139) Front Fog Lamps Relay Driver circuit.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
No
• Go to Test Step 4
Test Step 4 - CHECK THE (L139) FRONT FOG LAMPS RELAY DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
• Turn the ignition off.
• Measure the resistance of the (L139) Front Fog Lamps Relay Driver circuit between the Front Fog Lamps Relay harness connector and the TIPM C4 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
• Replace the TIPM.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
No
• Repair the open in the (L139) Front Fog Lamps Relay Driver circuit.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
