B1889 - Power Liftgate Pinch Sensor 1 Circuit High
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to
• When Monitored: Whenever the power liftgate module is awake.
• Set Condition: The power liftgate module has detected the left liftgate pinch sensor circuit voltage is above 4.8 volts for over 10 seconds.
Test Step 1 - DTC Present
• With the scan tool, record DTCs and any liftgate inhibitors.
• Erase DTCs.
• Turn the ignition OFF, wait 10 seconds, then turn the ignition ON.
• Operate the liftgate several times.
• With the scan tool, check for DTCs.
Does the scan tool display B1889 - Power Liftgate Pinch Sensor 1 Circuit High?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 2
No
• Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors for an intermittent condition.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
Test Step 2 - Logic Ground Open
• Turn the ignition OFF.
• Disconnect the left liftgate pinch sensor harness connector.
• Measure the resistance between ground and the logic ground circuit in the left pinch sensor harness connector.
Is the resistance less than 9.5 ohms?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 3
No
• Repair the logic ground circuit for an open.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
Test Step 3 - Left Pinch Sensor Open
• Measure the resistance of the left pinch sensor in the component side connector.
• the graphic shows the harness side - component side is the mate connector of the pinch sensor.
Is the resistance between 9k and 11k ohms?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 4
No
• Replace the left pinch sensor.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
Test Step 4 - Left Pinch Sensor Signal Circuit Open
• Turn the ignition ON.
• Measure the voltage between the logic ground circuit and the left pinch sensor signal circuit in the left pinch sensor harness connector.
Is the voltage less than 4.5 volts?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 5
No
• Go to Test Step 6
Test Step 5 - Left Pinch Sensor Signal Circuit Open
• Turn the ignition OFF.
• Disconnect the power liftgate module C2 harness connector.
• Measure the resistance of the left pinch sensor signal circuit between the power liftgate module C2 connector and the left liftgate pinch sensor connector.
Is the resistance less than 5.0 ohms?
Yes
• Replace the power liftgate module.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
No
• Repair the left pinch sensor signal circuit for an open.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
Test Step 6 - Left Pinch Sensor Signal Circuit Short to Voltage
• Measure the voltage between the logic ground circuit and the left pinch sensor signal circuit.
Is the voltage more than 4.5 volts?
No
• Replace the left liftgate pinch sensor.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Body Interior
Yes
• Go to Test Step 7
Test Step 7 - Left Pinch Sensor Signal Wire Short to Voltage
• Disconnect the power liftgate module C2 connector.
• Connect a jumper wire from the logic ground in the left pinch sensor harness connector to ground.
• Measure the voltage between the logic ground circuit and the left pinch sensor signal circuit.
Is there any voltage present?
No
• Replace the power liftgate module.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
Yes
• Repair the left pinch sensor signal circuit for a short to voltage.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
