B1948 - Power Liftgate Pinch Sensor 2 Circuit High

For a complete wiring diagram, refer to.

When Monitored: Whenever the power liftgate module is awake.

Set Condition: The power liftgate module has detected the right liftgate pinch sensor circuit voltage is above 9.5 volts for over 10 seconds.

The vehicle should be at room temperature when this test is performed.

Test Step 1 - DTC PRESENT

With the scan tool, record DTCs and any liftgate inhibitors.

Erase DTCs.

Turn the ignition OFF, wait 10 seconds, then turn the ignition ON.

Operate the liftgate several times.

With the scan tool, check for DTCs.

Does the scan tool display B1948 - Power Liftgate Pinch Sensor 2 Circuit High?

Yes

Go to Test Step 2

No

Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors for an intermittent condition.

Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior

Test Step 2 - Logic Ground Open

Turn the ignition OFF.

Disconnect the right liftgate pinch sensor connector.

Measure the resistance between ground and the logic ground circuit in the right pinch sensor harness connector.

Is the resistance less than 9.5 ohms?

Yes

Go to Test Step 3

No

Repair the logic ground circuit for an open.

Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior

Test Step 3 - Check the Right Liftgate Pinch Sensor

Disconnect the right liftgate pinch sensor harness connector.

Measure the resistance between the logic ground circuit and the right pinch sensor signal circuit in the right liftgate pinch/temp sensor (component side) connector.

Graphic shows the harness side - component side is the mate connector.

Is the resistance between 9k and 11k ohms?

Yes

Go to Test Step 4

No

Replace the right liftgate pinch/temp sensor.

Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior

Test Step 4 - Right Pinch Sensor Signal Circuit Open

Turn the ignition ON.

Measure the voltage between the logic ground circuit and the right pinch sensor signal circuit in the right pinch sensor harness connector.

Is the voltage less than 4.5 volts?

Yes

Go to Test Step 5

No

Go to Test Step 6

Test Step 5 - Check the Right Pinch Sensor Signal Circuit for an Open

Turn the ignition OFF.

Disconnect the power liftgate module C2 harness connector.

Measure the resistance of the right pinch sensor signal circuit between the power liftgate module C2 harness connector and the right liftgate pinch sensor harness connector.

Is the resistance less than 5.0 ohms?

Yes

Replace the power liftgate module.

Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior

No

Repair the right pinch sensor signal circuit for an open.

Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior

Test Step 6 - Right Pinch Sensor Signal Circuit Short to Voltage

Measure the voltage between the logic ground circuit and the right pinch sensor signal circuit in the right pinch sensor harness connector.

Is the voltage more than 4.5 volts?

No

Replace the right liftgate pinch sensor.

Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior

Yes

Go to Test Step 7

Test Step 7 - Right Pinch Sensor Signal Wire Short to Voltage

Disconnect the power liftgate module C2 harness connector.

Connect a jumper wire from the logic ground in the right pinch sensor harness connector to ground.

Measure the voltage between the logic ground circuit and the right pinch sensor signal circuit in the right pinch sensor harness connector.

Is there any voltage present?

No

Replace the power liftgate module.

Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior

Yes

Repair the right pinch sensor signal circuit for a short to voltage.

Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
