C1008

C1008 - Brake Fluid Level Circuit High

For a complete wiring diagram, refer to.

When Monitored: With the ignition ON.

Set Condition: When the totally integrated power module indicates that the brake fluid level circuit is greater than 4.9 volts for more then 5 seconds.

Test Step 1 - Brake Fluid Level Switch Signal Voltage more than 4.9 Volts

This DTC must be active for the results of this test to be valid.

Turn the ignition ON.

With the scan tool, read brake fluid level switch signal voltage.

Is the voltage more than 4.9 volts?

Yes

Go to Test Step 2.

No

Perform the ABS Intermittent Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. ABS Intermittent Condition Test

Test Step 2 - Brake Fluid Level Switch Signal Circuit Short to Battery Voltage

Turn the ignition OFF.

Disconnect the brake fluid level switch harness connector.

Turn the ignition ON.

Measure the voltage of the brake fluid level signal circuit in the brake fluid level switch harness connector to ground.

Is the voltage more than 5.2 volts?

Yes

Repair the brake fluid level signal circuit for a short to voltage.

Perform ABS Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. ABS Verification Test

No

Go to Test Step 3.

Test Step 3 - Brake Fluid Level Switch Internal Failure

Turn the ignition OFF.

Connect a jumper wire between the signal circuit and the return circuit in the switch harness connector.

Turn the ignition ON.

With the scan tool, read the voltage

Is the voltage less than 1.0 volt?

Yes

Go to Test Step 4.

No

Go to Test Step 5.

Test Step 4 - Brake Switch Resistance

Turn the ignition OFF.

Measure the resistance of the brake fluid level switch.

Is the resistance between 9k - 11k ohms?

Yes

Perform the ABS Intermittent Condition Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. ABS Intermittent Condition Test

No

Replace the brake fluid level switch.

Perform the ABS Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. ABS Verification Test

Test Step 5 - Brake Fluid Level Switch Circuit Open

Turn the ignition OFF.

Disconnect the TIPM harness connector.

Measure the resistance of the brake fluid level signal circuit between the brake fluid level switch harness connector and the TIPM harness connector.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Yes

Go to Test Step 6.

No

Repair the open in the signal circuit.

Perform the ABS Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. ABS Verification Test

Test Step 6 - Switch Return Circuit Open

Reconnect the TIPM harness connector.

Measure the resistance of the brake fluid level switch return circuit between the brake fluid level switch harness connector and ground.

Is the resistance less than 5.0 ohms?

Yes

Replace the TIPM.

Perform the ABS Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. ABS Verification Test

No

Repair the open in the return circuit.

Perform ABS Verification. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. ABS Verification Test
