Liftgate
• To protect the vehicle finish, apply several layers of masking tape on the top edges of the liftgate and around the liftgate opening prior to loosening the hinges.
Removing
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Using a grease pencil or equivalent, mark the installed position of each liftgate hinge (4) in relationship to the liftgate (3).
- If equipped, disconnect the power liftgate motor link rod from the liftgate pivot. Refer to => [ Power Liftgate Link Rod ] Power Liftgate Link Rod.
- Remove the upper liftgate trim panel.
- Remove the rear header trim panel.
- Disconnect the liftgate wire harness connectors (2) from the body wire harness.
- Disengage the wire harness grommet (9) from the liftgate and carefully pull the body wire harness out of the liftgate.
- Disconnect the rear wiper washer hose (8) at the connector (7).
- Disengage the grommet for the rear wiper washer hose from the rear header panel (6) and route the hose out of the header panel.
- Support the liftgate with a suitable lifting device in the full open position.
- Disconnect the liftgate support cylinders (5) from the liftgate pivots.
- With assistance, remove the two bolts (1) that secure each liftgate hinge to the liftgate and carefully remove the liftgate.
Installing
- With assistance, carefully position the liftgate (3) to the vehicle and loosely install the two bolts (1) that secure each hinge (4) to the liftgate.
- Align the hinges to the marks on the liftgate and tighten the retaining bolts to 33 Nm (24 ft lbs).
- Support the liftgate with a suitable lifting device in the full open position.
- Connect the liftgate support cylinders (5) to the liftgate pivots.
- Remove the lifting device and tape from the liftgate and liftgate opening.
- If equipped, connect the power liftgate motor link rod to the liftgate pivot. Refer to => [ Power Liftgate Link Rod ] Power Liftgate Link Rod.
- Route the body wire harness through the hole in the liftgate and engage the grommet (9).
- Connect the liftgate wire harness connectors (2) to the body wire harness.
- Route the rear wiper washer hose (8) through the hole in the rear header panel (6) and engage the grommet.
- Connect the rear wiper washer hose to the connector (7).
- Install the rear header trim panel.
- Install the negative battery cable.
- Verify liftgate alignment. The liftgate should have the specified gap to the adjacent panels and fit flush across the gaps.
