Upper Intake Manifold






Upper Intake Manifold

Removing

- Disconnect the negative battery cable.

- Remove the engine cover.

- Disconnect the following electrical connections:






Electronic throttle control (ETC) (1)

Manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor (3)

Short runner valve solenoid (4)

- Loosen the clamp and disconnect the air inlet hose (5) from the throttle body (2).

- Disconnect the following vacuum hoses from the upper intake manifold:






Positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve (3)

EVAP purge solenoid (1)

Power brake booster (2)

- Remove the EGR tube (5). Refer to => [ Exhaust Gas Recirculation Pipe ] Exhaust Gas Recirculation Pipe.






- Disengage two wire harness retainers (3) from the intake manifold support brackets (1) and reposition the wire harness (2).






- Remove two nuts (1) from the power steering hose support brackets (3) and reposition the power steering hose (2).






- Remove two studs (2) from the intake manifold support brackets (1).






- Remove the seven upper intake manifold retaining bolts (2) and remove the upper intake manifold (1).






- Cover the open intake ports to prevent debris from entering the engine.

- If required, remove the throttle body. Refer to => [ Throttle Body ] Service and Repair.

- If required, remove the MAP sensor. Refer to => [ Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor ] Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor.

- If required, remove the short runner valve solenoid. Refer to => [ EVAP Purge Solenoid ] EVAP Purge Solenoid.

Installing

- Clean and inspect the intake manifold gasket sealing surfaces. Install a new intake manifold gasket.

- If removed, install the throttle body. Refer to => [ Throttle Body ] Service and Repair.

- If removed, install the MAP sensor. Refer to => [ Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor ] Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor.

- If removed, install the short runner valve solenoid. Refer to => [ EVAP Purge Solenoid ] EVAP Purge Solenoid.

- Install the upper intake manifold (1) and hand start the seven attaching bolts (2).






- Tighten the bolts (2) gradually starting in the center working outward to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.).

- Install two studs (2) to the intake manifold support brackets (1). Tighten the studs to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.).






- Position the power steering hose support brackets (3) on the studs. Install two nuts (1) and tighten to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.).






- Engage two wire harness retainers (3) to the intake manifold support brackets (1).






- Install the EGR tube (5). Refer to => [ Exhaust Gas Recirculation Pipe ] Exhaust Gas Recirculation Pipe.






- Connect the following vacuum hoses to the upper intake manifold:






Positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve (3)

EVAP purge solenoid (1)

Power brake booster (2)

- Connect the air inlet hose (5) to the throttle body (2).

- Connect the following electrical connectors:






Electronic throttle control (ETC) (1)

Manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor (3)

Short runner valve solenoid (4)

- Install the engine cover.

- Connect the negative battery cable.
