Lateral Accelerometer: Service and Repair

Electronic Stabilization Program Sensor Unit

The transverse acceleration sensor (G200), rotation rate sensor (G202) and longitudinal acceleration sensor (G251) are installed in a housing under the center console.

After replacing the Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP) sensor unit (G419), transverse acceleration sensor and longitudinal acceleration sensor basic setting must take place.

CAUTION!
Strong vibrations can destroy the transverse acceleration sensor, rotation rate sensor and longitudinal acceleration sensor.

Removing

- Remove the center console.

CAUTION!
Follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components such as airbags, belt tensioners and battery disconnect units when working on the airbag control module (J234). Refer to General Information.

- Disconnect the battery.

- Remove the airbag control module and lay aside slightly toward the front.

- Disconnect the connector - 1 - from the ESP sensor unit.

- Remove the 2 nuts - arrows -.

- Remove the ESP sensor unit.

Installing

- Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

When installing the ESP sensor unit make sure it is correctly seated in its mounting and is free of stress.

Never force the ESP sensor unit into position using the nuts.

- Tighten the nuts to 8 Nm.

- Perform the transverse acceleration sensor and longitudinal acceleration sensor basic setting.

- (VAS 5051), connecting and selecting functions. Refer to => [ VAS 5051, Connecting and Selecting Functions ] Testing and Inspection.
