Steering Column Switch Module, through 10.09
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1410)
Removing and installing the steering column combination switch (E595) => Steering Column Combination Switch (E595), through 10.09
Follow the procedure in the repair information when disconnecting and connecting the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Removal and Replacement.
Also, if only one individual component of steering column switch is removed or replaced, it must be performed in sequence as described in the following.
• Code the new steering column electronics control module (J527) after installing it, refer to => Steering Column Electronics Control Module J527, through 10.09.
• If the steering column switch malfunctions, check the steering column electronic systems control module coding with output diagnostic test mode.

DTC Recognition and Display
The Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module is equipped with On Board Diagnostics (OBD) which assists troubleshooting.
The "Guided Fault Finding" function is to be used for troubleshooting of the systems as described in => [ Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information Systems ] Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information Systems.
Removing
- Disconnect the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Removal and Replacement.
• Danger of the airbag deploying!
• The airbag could deploy if the unit is mishandled.
• Follow all Safety Precautions when working on an airbag.
- Remove the steering wheel.
- Remove the steering column trim.
Remove steering column switch assembly components in the following sequence:
• Steering column electronic systems control module (J527) => [ Steering Column Electronics Control Module J527, through 10.09 ] Steering Column Electronics Control Module J527, through 10.09
• Airbag spiral spring/return spring with slip ring (F138) ,. refer to => [ Airbag Spiral Spring/Return Spring With Slip Ring F138, through 10.09 ] Airbag Spiral Spring/Return Spring With Slip Ring F138, through 10.09.
• Segment sensor for steering angle sensor, refer to => [ Steering Angle Sensor G85, through 10.09 ] Steering Angle Sensor G85, through 10.09.
• Steering Column Combination Switch (E595) => Steering Column Combination Switch (E595), through 10.09
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal.
