Oil Pan Lower Section, Removing and Installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Old oil collecting and extracting device (V.A.G 1782)





Hand drill with plastic brush attachment

Protective eyewear

Silicone sealant (D 174 003 A2)

Removing

- Remove noise insulation => Body Exterior 50 noise insulation.

- If present, disconnect the electrical connector - 1 - for the Oil Level Thermal Sensor (G266).





- Drain engine oil.

Observe disposal regulations!

- Remove the screws - 1 through 20 -.





- Remove oil pan, if necessary loosen by applying light strikes with a rubber hammer.

Installing

Tightening specifications => [ Oil Pan, Oil Pump, Assembly Overview ] Oil Pan, Oil Pump, Assembly Overview

Note the expiration date of the silicone sealant.

The oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after application of silicone sealant.

- Remove sealant residue from upper part of the oil pan with a flat scraper.

CAUTION!
Wear safety glasses.

- Remove sealant residue on the lower part of the oil pan, e.g. with a rotating plastic brush.





- Clean sealing surfaces, must be free of oil and grease.

- Cut tube nozzle at front marking (dia. of nozzle approximately 3 mm).





- Apply silicon sealant (D 174 003 A2) to clean sealing surfaces of the oil pan (lower part) as shown in illustration.





The oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after application of silicon sealant.

The sealant bead may not be thicker than specified, otherwise excess sealant could enter the oil pan and clog the oil intake tube.

Thickness of sealant bead: 2 to 3 mm.

- Immediately mount the lower part of the oil pan and tighten the screws - 1 through 20 - in two steps as follows:





- Tighten the bolts to 8 Nm.

- Tighten the bolts an additional 90°.

After installing oil pan, allow sealant to dry for approximately 30 minutes. Only after then may the engine oil be replenished.

- Fill the engine oil, oil capacities => [ Engine Oil ] Removal and Replacement.

The rest of the assembly is basically a reverse of the disassembling sequence.
