Removal and Replacement






Oil Pan

Removing

This engine uses a two piece oil pan. RTV is used between the upper and lower pans. The lower pan should not be separated from the upper pan unless this junction is leaking.

- Disconnect the negative battery cable.

- Remove the engine oil dipstick.

- Raise and suitably support the vehicle.

- Drain the engine oil.






- Remove the drive belt splash shield bolts (1 and 2).

- Remove the drive belt splash shield (3).






- Remove the seven structural cover bolts (2) and structural cover (1).

- Remove the oil pan bolts, pan (3) and gasket.

Installing

- Clean the sealing surfaces and apply a 1/8 inch bead of engine RTV GEN II sealant at the parting line (1) of the chain case cover and the rear seal retainer (1).






- Position a new pan gasket onto the oil pan.






- Install the oil pan (3) and tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (106 in lbs).

- Install the structural cover (1) and tighten the bolts (2) to 54 Nm (40 ft lbs).






- Install the drive belt splash shield (3).

- Install the drive belt splash shield bolts (1 and 2).

- Lower the vehicle and install the oil dipstick.

- Connect the negative battery cable.

- Fill the crankcase with oil to the proper level.
