B18E0
B18E0 - Power Liftgate Handle Switch - Stuck
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to
• When Monitored: Whenever the power liftgate module is awake.
• Set Condition: When the power liftgate module senses the liftgate handle switch sense circuit active (2.0V to 3.0V) for longer than 15 seconds, this code will set.
Theory of Operation
When the handle switch is inactive, the voltage from the module to the switch will be 5.0 volts. When the switch is pressed, the voltage will be approximately 2.2 volts. This can be verified by using the scan tool and monitoring the handle switch states or voltage and pressing and releasing the liftgate handle.
Test Step 1 - DTC Present
• With the scan tool, record DTCs.
• Erase DTCs.
• Turn the ignition OFF, wait 10 seconds, then turn the ignition ON.
• Operate the liftgate several times.
• With the scan tool, check for DTCs.
Does the scan tool display B18E0 - Power Liftgate Handle Switch Stuck
Yes
• Go to Test Step 2.
No
• Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors for an intermittent condition.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
Test Step 2 - Liftgate Handle Switch Short
• Disconnect the power liftgate latch harness connector.
• Erase DTCs.
• Turn the ignition OFF, wait 10 seconds, then turn the ignition ON.
• With the scan tool, check for DTCs.
Does the scan tool display B18E0 - Power Liftgate Handle Switch Stuck?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 3
No
• Check the handle switch linkage for the cause of the sticking condition. If the linkage is OK, replace the power liftgate latch assembly.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
Test Step 3 - Liftgate Handle Switch Sense Circuit Short to Ground
• Disconnect the power liftgate module C2 harness connector.
• Measure the resistance between ground and the liftgate handle switch sense circuit.
Is the resistance less than 10k ohms?
Yes
• Repair the liftgate handle switch sense circuit for a partial short to ground.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
No
• Go to Test Step 4
Test Step 4 - Liftgate Handle Switch Sense Circuit Short to Sensor Ground
• Measure the resistance between the logic ground circuit and the liftgate handle switch sense circuit.
Is the resistance less than 10k ohms?
Yes
• Repair the liftgate handle switch sense circuit for a short to the logic ground circuit.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
No
• Replace the power liftgate module.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. Body Interior
