Remote Start Inoperative - Antenna

Theory of Operation
The customer may notice that the signal range of the remote keyless entry system is reduced. The RKE key fob may need to be closer than 3 meters (10 feet) before the functions available on the key fob will operate. This condition may be due to the RKE antenna. The diagnostic flow chart is provide as an aid for dealer technician.
Test Step 1 - Lock/Unlock Function
• For all RKE tests, the key must be removed from the ignition.
Does the lock/unlock function with the interior door switches?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 2
No
• Perform the Power Lock/Unlock System Test. Refer to => [ Power Lock Motor ] Testing and Inspection.
Test Step 2 - RKE Function at 20 Feet
Does the RKE function at 20 feet?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 3
No
• Go to Test Step 4
Test Step 3 - RKE Function at 100 Feet
Does the RKE Function at 100 feet?
Yes
• Test complete.
No
• Replace the antenna.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => [ Body Verification Test ] Body Interior.
Test Step 4 - Wireless Information Node/Wireless Control Module DTCs
Does the wireless information node/wireless control module display any DTCs?
Yes
• Perform the WIN diagnosis. Refer to => [ Wireless Ignition Node Pre-Diagnostic Procedure ] Wireless Ignition Node Pre-Diagnostic Procedure.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => [ Body Verification Test ] Body Interior.
No
• Go to Test Step 5
Test Step 5 - RKE Function Inside Vehicle
• Sit inside the vehicle.
• Push the key fob RKE lock and unlock buttons.
Do the RKE lock and unlock functions work?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 6
No
• Go to Test Step 9
Test Step 6 - Antenna Coaxial Cable Not Correctly Connected
• Pull on the antenna coaxial cable connector at the WCM/WIN.
Did the connector come off without releasing the lock tab?
Yes
• Correctly connect the antenna.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => [ Body Verification Test ] Body Interior.
No
• Go to Test Step 7
Test Step 7 - Verify Coaxial Connection at WCM/WIN
• Pull antenna connector off WCM/WIN. Verify no bent pins.
Are there any bent pins?
Yes
• Replace the antenna.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => [ Body Verification Test ] Body Interior.
No
• Go to Test Step 8
Test Step 8 - Pinched Wire
• Inspect the antenna lead coaxial cable for a pinched wire.
Has the cable been pinched or damaged?
Yes
• Replace the antenna.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => [ Body Verification Test ] Body Interior.
No
• Perform the WIN diagnostics. Refer to => [ Wireless Ignition Node Pre-Diagnostic Procedure ] Wireless Ignition Node Pre-Diagnostic Procedure.
Test Step 9 - RKE Function Inside Vehicle
• Disconnect the antenna coaxial cable lead connector to the WCM/WIN.
• Sit inside the vehicle. Push the RKE key fob lock and unlock buttons.
Does the RKE lock and unlock work?
Yes
• Replace the antenna.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => [ Body Verification Test ] Body Interior.
No
• Go to Test Step 10
Test Step 10 - Check for 12 Volts at the WCM/WIN
• Connect the antenna lead to the WCM/WIN.
• Disconnect the WCM/WIN harness connector.
• Using the appropriate wiring diagrams, check the fused B+ at the WCM/WIN harness connector.
Is fused B+ present?
Yes
• Perform the WIN diagnostics. Refer to => [ Wireless Ignition Node Pre-Diagnostic Procedure ] Wireless Ignition Node Pre-Diagnostic Procedure.
No
• Repair the appropriate circuits.
• Perform the Body Verification Test. Refer to => [ Body Verification Test ] Body Interior.
