- Wipe the cylinder bore clean. Insert the piston ring and push down with the piston to ensure it is square in the bore. The ring gap measurement must be made with the ring positioning at least 12 mm (0.50 in) from the bottom of the cylinder bore. Check the gap with a feeler gauge (1).
